Westover COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidelines
These guidelines have been created in conjunction with Westover’s overall health and safety handbook. This handbook specifically addresses protocols and guidelines only related to COVID-19 related issues. Please note that these guidelines are current as of July 6, 2020, but may be revised moving forward, in accordance with state, local, and school regulations. All of these guidelines adhere to current executive orders issued by the Governor of Connecticut and K-12 protocols and guidelines provided by the State of Connecticut and the Office of Early Education. Please note that any sentences with quotations around them are pulled directly from Governor Lamont’s order named “Rules for operating Summer School during COVID19”. You can view these official guidelines here. Westover’s Health Center will continue to monitor and amend the handbook with new guidelines as they are received from the appropriate officials.

Camp safety logistics:
No more than 50 total students will be on campus
Does not include teachers or staff affiliated with the summer program
No more than 10 students per class or afternoon activity
All students and staff must adhere to physical distancing (6 feet apart) at all times
All students and staff must wear a mask at all times
Masks will be provided for those who do not possess one
The following individuals are exempt from this requirement per CDC guidelines:
“Anyone for whom use of a face mask would be contrary to his or her health or safety because of a medical condition”
“A child whose parent, guardian or person responsible for the child is unable to remove the face mask safely on their face.”
Any student or staff who is feeling sick in any way will be required to stay home and monitor symptoms
Any camper or staff who is feeling sick in any way is required to stay home.
Visitors, including parents, are restricted from campus during Summer Programs, other than for purposes of drop-off/pick-up.
No person should come to campus who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or who has come into recent contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19
No person should come to campus who has travelled out-of-state within the last 14 days to a state identified as having increased daily positive test rates. As of June 30th, this list included the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah. Sanitation:
Utilized classrooms and afternoon activity areas will be sanitized after each period
All surfaces including desks, chairs, and tables will be cleaned and sanitized
School and activity related materials will be cleaned and sanitized at the end of the day
“No two individuals should use the same materials in a given school day.”
Cleaning logs will be kept to track cleaning frequency
Students and faculty are required to wash their hands after using the bathroom and before any meals. Frequent hand washing is strongly encouraged outside of these requirements
All bathrooms will be cleaned twice a day
“Hand dryers will be turned off. Bathrooms will be provided with paper towels to dry hands”
Alcohol-based hand sanitizer will be stationed at every entrance to campus and classrooms
Medical Responses:
There will be an isolated area separate from the health center for any children who show symptoms related to COVID-19 while attending camp. For all other health-related matters, students will be sent to the health center
Students are to inform their teacher or afternoon activity staff if they are not feeling well
The informed adult will immediately notify the Camp Director
Camp Director will then immediately contact the on-campus nurse who will report to the COVID-19 isolated area
Camp Director will go to the sick child and escort them to the isolated area to be assessed by the nurse
If the nurse determines they are showing signs of COVID-19, the Camp Director will contact the family immediately and the child will be picked up
Either the nurse or Camp Director will remain with the child until the family arrives on campus for pick-up
The sick child must show proof of testing negative for COVID-19 before returning back to campus
If a child who attends the summer program tests positive for COVID-19, all families enrolled during that session will be notified immediately
The local health department will be notified as well
Continuing to run camp after a confirmed diagnosis will be on a case by case basis
Arrival and Departure:
Parents and students must adhere to physical distancing and be wearing a mask upon arrival and departure
Designated times and spots will be given to families ahead of summer session for pick up/drop off
All students and faculty must have their temperature taken before entering campus
The summer staff will administer a non-contact forehead thermometer reading. Anything exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit will require that student or staff member return home
Health center will document all temperature readings for each student
Personnel:
The following are all personnel who are directly affiliated with the summer program. Please note that the following staff includes both morning teachers and afternoon activity leaders. This group also does not include administration who might be working on campus nor faculty who live on campus:
Summer Director and Coordinator, five teachers, two nurses, two high school counselors, two afternoon activity leaders, and two dining service employees
Summer Director and Coordinator, one nurse, and two high school counselors will be on campus throughout the entire day
Five teachers, two afternoon activity leaders, and two dining service employees will be on campus part-time during the day
All summer personnel will be trained on proper sanitation by the health center
Meals and Food
Breakfast and lunch meals will be pre-packed every day by dining services
There will be no “hot” option, only “cold” option meals
Any dietary restrictions or preferences should be made aware of to the Camp Director
All meals will be taken outside in the courtyard (covered area in the center of campus)
Spaces:
Westover is fortunate to have a wide selection of spaces around campus that we will be able to utilize this summer. Classes and meals might not be held in what would be considered “typical” spaces. Here is a list of indoor spaces with dimensions that we have as options:
Red Hall: 40X25, 1,000 square feet
Student Commons: 51X43, 2,193 square feet
Dining Hall: 42X50, 2,100 square feet
Dance Studio 1: 30X52, 1,560 square feet
Dance Studio 2: 29X48, 1,392 square feet
Dance Studio 3: 35X65, 2,275 square feet
Walker Room: 29X37, 1,073 square feet
