Surprise Lake Camp's mission is to provide a high quality camping experience primarily for Jewish children which fosters their social, moral, cultural, physical and emotional education and development. This is achieved through wholesome recreation, Jewish ritual, environmental education, diverse program opportunities, responsible supervision and healthful surroundings. Surprise Lake Camp boasts one of the most beautiful sites in the country, one of the most reputable programs, and a large, well-trained, caring staff. We believe that the true magic of camping is rooted in intangibles like the beauty of nature, the guidance of a highly trained staff, and helping children to grow into well-rounded adults.

At SLC, values are woven into the very fabric of camp life. We guide campers to embrace our five core middot. These aren’t just words on a plaque. They’re the compass guiding camper choices, from the sportsfield to the campfire — and serve as the foundation for character development.

SLC dining is kosher, and we also accommodate special diets, such as vegetarian, gluten-free and nut-free. The SLC Health Center handles any physical issue and ailment. In addition to our staff of experienced nurses available 24/7, our pediatrician maintains office hours, and is on call the rest of the time. The health center is also 20-bed overnight facility. Whenever needed, we can take campers out of camp for x-rays, lab work, or other procedures.

SLC’s summer Camper Care Team includes a variety of mental health professionals. Personable and experienced, these specialists help watch for and address any potential issues, from homesickness to social dynamics. Campers know them as friendly listeners who can help them think through challenges, while counselors turn to them for advice on supporting their campers.

Camp is a supportive, caring community with an upbeat Jewish flavor.
