Opal Creek Expeditions combine backcountry skills with ecological knowledge to create a unique experience in landscapes all over Oregon. Campers spend 6 nights on the trail, learning navigation, camp cooking, and wilderness first aid, along with on-the-trail lessons about fire ecology, geology, botany, and much more.

Our Youth Expeditions span across all of Oregon, with offerings in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness Area, Three Sisters Wilderness, Strawberry Mountain Wilderness, the Elkhorn Mountain range, the Umatilla National Forest and the Ochocos! Youth trips are separated by ages 10-12, Middle School, and High School. Our Adult Expeditions bring together groups of adults looking to learn to backpack, or just to have fun and make friends!

We have so many options for engaging trips this summer. Our "basecamp" style expeditions are for folks looking to establish camp and take longer day hikes without a pack. We also have Tour de Lacs and Blue Mountain Trail for campers looking for a more challenging trip. Some of our expeditions end in an awesome McKenzie River or Deschutes River rafting trip! Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center operates under a special use permit with the Willamette, Deschutes, Ochocos, Umatilla, Malheur, and Wallowa-Whitman National Forests.
