Lone Star Leadership Academy programs are Sunday-Friday experiential learning leadership development programs offered throughout the summer. Outstanding young students meet for programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth (4th-6th graders), Austin/San Antonio (5th-7th graders) and Houston/Galveston (6th-8th graders) areas. Participants visit significant sites including the Fort Worth Stockyards, Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza and the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing (Dallas/Fort Worth program); offices of state legislators at the Texas Capitol, The Alamo, and the Texas State Capitol (Austin/San Antonio program); and NASA, an educational boat ride on the Houston Ship Channel and Moody Gardens (Houston/Galveston program) and much more. Educators facilitate programs including leadership groups where students participate in simulations and leadership activities. In addition, career speakers introduce participants to a wide variety of unique career opportunities. Program alumni are invited to join Education in Action’s Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council. In order to qualify for the program, students must maintain an 85 or higher average and receive a recommendation based on demonstrated leadership ability.
