Coach Bernstein is one of, if not the best hidden-gem of javelin mentorship in the state of New Jersey. From our time together I felt we developed a strong and profound relationship that began at the very first session when I realized that he was different from any coach I had previously had. His ability to recognize an athlete’s challenges and approach to breaking through barriers is unlike anything I would’ve imagined. Erik, Thanks so much for coaching Peter! He had reached his maximum using the throwing style he had, and after only six lessons he started to get used to the new style, embrace it, and boy did it work! His championship throw at the NEPSTA meet capped off a difficult transition that initially cost him distance and then gave him the foundation to become the best thrower in the New England Prep Schools. Your constant care for him and taking the time to speak with him when he had questions was a great help. We're looking forward to seeing what he can do in the Ivy League next year! Let's see... from the beginning of our practicing it has been an all around new experience. Emotionally, mentally, and physically I have changed and matured as a javelin thrower and a person throughout my experience (so far). A Parent's Perspective…My son received one on one javelin coaching sessions with Erik for a little more than a year. Erik is very professional in his coaching and has a unique ability to convey his knowledge of the correct skills involved in throwing the javelin. My son not only gained in his ability to throw the javelin with correct form, but also learned a lot of the intricate details involved in the body's movements and positions while throwing.
