Camp Kesem is a national non-profit organization that provides a free week of summer camp to kids with a parent who has, or has had, cancer. We are in 38 colleges across the country, including Florida State University as of this year. Camp Kesem is entirely run by students at FSU; the students raise the money, recruit the campers, and work tirelessly all year long to make our camp a reality.
Camp Kesem is completely free to kids who have a parent or primary guardian that has, or has had cancer. Camp Kesem is available to all children in the Tallahassee, North Florida, and South Georgia area between the ages of 6 and 13. Camp Kesem is a secular camp and is open to all children, regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, or financial status. Due to the financial burden experienced by families coping with cancer, Camp Kesem is provided completely free of charge to the families it serves.
Camp Kesem at FSU is run by a committee of 10 coordinators who work continuously throughout the year to plan camp, fundraise, and recruit and maintain relationships with families from the area. Our camp will be staffed by carefully selected and trained Florida State University students who are passionate about helping families and kids through this incredible program. At Camp Kesem, we maintain a 2:1 camper to counselor ratio to ensure individual attention is paid to each of our campers, and to foster a warm and welcoming environment at camp.
