A Maine tradition since 1907. Located in central Maine, Androscoggin is the summer home for 275 boys between 7 and 15 and 100 staff. Since that first summer, campers and counselors have been sharing summers to remember on our 120 acre campus on the shores of Lake Androscoggin. Each summer, boys come to play sports, learn new activities and explore all that Maine has to offer while becoming part of a close-knit community and making friendshps that will last a lifetime. All, while having the summer of their lives.

Androscoggin has been owned and operated by the Hirsch family since 1964 whrn Stanley and Barbara began the family tradition. Their son Peter, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown Law School, became a Director in 1984 following 15 years as a camper and a counselor. Peter and his wife Roberta, formerly an early-grades teacher with a masters degree in education from Teachers College of Columbia University, are now directors of the camp.

Androscoggin is known for its staff – more than 100 people with proven expertise, maturity, and a natural ability to be mentors and role models. They are carefully selected and thoroughly trained, starting with a full week of orientation before the campers arrive and continuing through the summer. Every counselor has completed at least one year of college and is a specialist in one activity or sport. The camp has no general counselors, no junior counselors or counselors in training.

As part of our daily program, we make certain each camper is introduced to every activity we offer and receives instruction from an experienced specialist. Learning how makes everything more fun. It also makes campers more confident about taking on new challenges now and in the future. We also structure our program so that every camper has the opportunity to personalize his schedule. As our campers get older they have more opportunities to specialize in the activities they select. Group leaders and department heads work together to monitor each camper’s progress, making certain he receives extra attention in the areas he and his parents have requested.
