Catalina Island Camps (CIC) is located on the remote west end of Catalina Island at Howlands Landing. Founded in 1922 as a resident summer camp for boys, we now provide our unique island experience to boys and girls entering 2nd through 10th grade. The success of CIC is due, in large part, to the quality of the staff we hire. We have campers return year after year and when we ask them why, they often reply: "because I loved my counselor."
As a staff member, you will share your responsibilities with a co-counselor. You will eat meals together, sleep in the same cabin as your campers, participate together in evening programs, and cabin closings. A significant part of your job is to work with your co-counselor and develop guidelines so that everyone in your cabin has a consistent framework for dealing with conflicts. You are expected to be active participants with your cabin and must communicate effectively with your co-counselor so that both of you are comfortable with the cabin dynamic. Program is designed to facilitate play in a safe atmosphere so that as many children as possible want to participate. Together, you and your co-counselor, have the wonderful chance to hang out with up to 10 campers and change their lives forever!
We hire until we fill positions. The sooner the better with applying!
We also run a Fall & Spring Outdoor Environmental Education program title CELP (Catalina Environmental Leadership Program) if interested.
