We are looking for creative staff members who are seeking challenging summer employment. If you are willing to share your ideas, and to invest time and energy in creating a memorable summer for our campers at Camp Oakhurst, first read our Services page for an overview of our program. Camp Oakhurst offers competitive salaries, great working conditions, and valuable practical experience. Staff are hired from a wide geographic area of the United States and from many other countries as well. This international mix allows staff the unique opportunity to work, socialize, and share lifestyles with persons from all over the world.
Staff for the year 2006 camping season can be hired for 6 or 8 weeks starting June 29th and ending August 7th or 23rd. We have a one week Training and Orientation program, which starts June 23rd. During this week, time is spent preparing the facility for the season and all staff attend an intensive orientation. The policies and procedures of the program are discussed and workshops are conducted to better educate staff in working more efficiently with our population.
Summer Camp positions include:
CABIN SUPERVISORS: Supervise counselors in the care of the campers. Help train counselors, meet with caseworkers, and develop program activity schedules. Supervisory experience and camp experience preferred. Leadership, planning, and communication skills a plus. Must have experience with physically disabled population.
CABIN COUNSELORS: Live in cabins with our campers and be responsible for their care, safety, and welfare. Assist campers with daily living skills and activity participation. We are seeking caring individuals with a desire to work with special populations. Must have a high energy level and good interpersonal skills.
SWIM SPECIALISTS: Lifeguard Certification Required. Supervise campers and staff in pool. Lead creative adapted aquatics activities.
ACTIVITY SPECIALISTS: Assume responsibility for planning and leading activities in Music, Drama, Cooking, Photography and Computers. Experience in specialty area is required. Experience with special populations a plus.
ARTS AND CRAFTS SPECIALISTS: Responsible for planning and leading a wide variety of adapted craft activities; supervision of staff in the Craft Shop; supply ordering/inventory; and assist in organizing programs throughout Camp. Must have experience with physically disabled population.
NURSES: RN's and LPN's and Nursing Students. Experience with special populations preferred.
Year-Round positions include:
RESPITE COUNSELOR - This job has two primary responsibilities. The first is to assist clients in activities of daily living (eating, dressing, etc.). The second is to lead adapted recreation activities. These might include drama, athletics, music, arts & crafts, cooking, photography, and computer programs. Year-round respite counselors are generally selected from among our summer staff. The position includes a private room, full board, and a competitive salary. It's a great position for people wanting to take a year off between college and graduate school to gain experience in social services or those seeking a position with a lot of time off to pursue travel or other interests.
RESPITE SUPERVISOR - This position involves supervising respite counselors in day-to-day activities. It does involve a good deal of hands-on physical care work. Other responsibilities include scheduling, leading program activities, and serving as the lead administrator on camp. Experience with physically disabled population is required, supervisory experience preferred.
